Before researching on 3M, the only impression I had was the famous Post-it notes and the 3M hooks. To me, 3M was just a company that focuses on innovation and many of their products was more for usage in daily life.
While researching on 3M, I chance upon a video done by 3M, titled "The Innovation Culture of 3M"
From this video, what really impressed me is how ideas are utilised in 3M. In the video, 3M generates ideas that leads to another. They dare to be different, and innovate products that not any ordinary company would do. They harness the chain of reaction, whereby ideas are used to generate even more ideas, and how the different technologies combine to form a single product. I feel that being able to express any ideas wild enough but yet still feasible is a very important quality that most people should have. Being able to voice out any innovative ideas may help the company to excel forward in terms of revolution in the way the products are made or the types of products the company produces. Without this quality, the company would probably be only stagnating and may even lead to decline as time passes. However, 3M is different as it treasures each and every idea, which is why they can expand so much and still holds a footing in the industry.
Looking at the products made by 3M, which includes products from all sectors, from household products to industry solutions and applications, it is no doubt 3M has practised the true meaning of innovation. It is even more interesting to know that 3M actually started off as a mining company! The amount of innovation done by 3M is truly stunning.
